Clube Português RR Association #, AKA The Portuguese Rhodesian Ridgeback Club (PRRC) has been designed to cater for everyone with an interest in the Rhodesian Ridgeback, both current owners and those simply interested in the breed.
From its origin in Africa, the Ridgeback has lost none of its abilities as a hunter and guardian and he continues to be an excellent companion. The Ridgeback is a devoted family dog, totally loyal to his master. He is rather aloof and undemonstrative towards strangers.
The Rhodesian Ridgeback is a dog of incorruptible, independent character, who takes his responsibilities of companionship, protection and family dedication to heart. He never forgets love and understanding, nor does he lightly forgive harsh treatment. He is a dog of noble bearing, whose physical attributes should reflect his role as guardian, loyal companion, and hunter.
‘THE CLUB & THE RIDGEBACK’,
We are a non-profit membership club with the intent to encourage and promote quality in the breeding of pure-bred Rhodesian Ridgebacks.
The membership growth of the club will encourage its members’ interests to extend beyond breeding and exhibiting, many members join simply to belong to a group of like-minded people and to be kept in touch with news, new ridgeback information and developments.
Whether you like to show your beautiful dog, partake in obedience training, compete in agility, or simply just enjoy the company of your dog as a pet this club is for you!
The primary aims of the Club are to further the interests of the Rhodesian Ridgeback breed, to run dog shows, and to promote seminars and social activities of an educational nature. Our primary focus is the breed and the owners in Portugal, but we warmly welcome members from all over the world. The clubs’ continued aim is to promote the Rhodesian Ridgeback breed in Portugal, and to secure its future well-being by encouraging carefully planned, responsible breeding from healthy stock, free from hereditary defects and equally important, persuading breeders to take the greatest possible care in the choice of homes for their puppies.
The main concern of all Club members must be the well-being of all animals, and particularly the Rhodesian Ridgeback breed. It is a fundamental condition for members of
the club to recognize the ethical principles written as their own, keeping these principles permanently present in their thoughts and actions. Thus, in this way, the firm purpose of intransigently safeguarding the interests of the specimens and the very future of the race shall be a shared responsibility.
To meet our aims, we hold a Championship Show and Open Show each year, organize two walks (not too strenuous!) and a fantastic Fun Day, as well as educational seminars on a regular basis. We continuously strive to improve, and the Committee(s) works hard to come up with new ideas. Members are encouraged to offer up new ideas for consideration and, of course, to volunteer to help at events.
